UIAA General Assembly 2011 in Nepal - 10 Oct

UIAA General Assembly held in Italy decided to hold the General Assembly of UIAA of 2011 in Kathmandu Nepal from 5- 9 Oct 2011. 170 representatives from Alpine Club all around the world are expected in the General Assembly. NMA President Mr. Zimba Zangbu Sherpa, General Secretary Mr. Deebas Bikram Shah, Immediate Past President Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa and government official Mr. Laxma Bhatterai, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation have participated in the General Assembly of Union of International Alpine Association (UIAA) held in Bornio, Italy from 5-10 Oct.

Nepal Bangladesh Friendship Expedition- 25 Oct

The ten team members of Nepal Bangladesh Friendship Expedition 2010 successfully ascended Chekigo peak on 18 Oct. The successful team members are as follows:

Bangladeshi Team :

1. Mr. Abdul Mohit (Team Leader)
2. Mr. Nur Mohammad
3. Mr. Mohammed Khaled Hossain
4. Mr. Nishat Mazumder
5. Mr. Kazi MD Bahlul Maznu

Nepalese Team :

1. Mr. Pemba Dorjee Sherpa (Team Leader)
2. Mr. Da Kipa Sherpa
3. Mr. Ngima Dorjee Sherpa
4. Ms. Dawa Yangjum Sherpa
5. Mr. Mingma Gyalje Sherpa

The expedition left Kathmandu on 4 October and its duration was 4 -24 October 2010. The expedition was jointly organized by NMA and Bangla Mountaineering & Trekking Club (BMTC). NMA has waived the royalty fee of US 500 as a support for the expedition team.

19-time Everest climber missing in Baruntse- 24 Oct

Chewang Nima Sherpa, from Thame in Solukhumbu, was climbing with "Adventure Trip Baruntse Expedition Autumn 2010" under the management of Sherpa Shangrila Treks(P) ltd. He was on the north slope of the mountain fixing the ropes when he was knocked over and down the north-east slope by the avalanche.

He is married and has two children and works in Everest region, spends his summers in Alaska, the USA, as a yak trainer. He first reached the summit of Everest as part of an American expedition in May of 1994. Since then, he has ascended Everest both from the north and south faces for 19 times. He is a close contender of Apa Sherpa, the world record holder for climbing Mt. Everest 20 times, successfully attempted the Everest ascent twice in a single season this year. His latest successful climb was on May 16, 2010. Besides Everest, Chewang has also successfully climbed several other peaks in Tibet and Nepal, including Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, Ama Dablam, and Nosing Khan.
