42nd NMA Day celebrated- 1st Nov

Nepal Mountaineering Association celebrated its 42nd Anniversary Day on 1st November 2015 at NMA Secretariat, Naxal Kathmandu. Secretary for Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya was the chief guest of the program. High level government officials, advisors and members of NMA and representative from different tourism related organization were present in the program.

The chief guest of the program inaugurated the program by hoisting NMA flag. After the welcome speech delivered by first VP Mr. Santa Bir Lama, the program observed one-minute silence in memory of the demise of known and unknown mountaineers.

Mr. Buddhi Narayan Shrestha mentioned about the criteria and procedure that were followed for the selection of award receivers and announced the name of the award receivers, which are as follows:

1. Late Kumar Khadka Bikram Adventurous Award - This award is given to "First Person from Nepal" Long Line Helicopter Rescue Specialist, Mr. Tshering Pande Bhote for his active Long Line Rescue from 1995 to 2015 including the avalanche happened on Everest on 18 April 2014 along with other rescue activities on different mountains.

2. Dr. Harka Gurung Mountaineering Award – This award is given to Mr. Mahabir Pun, a Nepalese teacher known for his extensive work in applying wireless technologies to develop remote areas of the Himalayas. He is also known as the "Wireless Man of Myagdi "The wireless technology innovated is used to track the trekkers and mountaineering on their way. It helps to find the lost one easily. He has received the following Awards:

• Social Innovations Award from the Global Ideas Bank
• Magsaysay Award, considered by some to be the Nobel Prize of Asia
• Jonathan B. Postel Service Award by the Internet Society

3. Dawa Norbu Mountaineering Journalist Award – This award is given to by Mr. Narayan Bhandari for his continuous effort in promoting the Tourism and Moutain Tourism in Nepal through Radio and Television.

The award receivers were selected by Award Selection and Evaluation Committee headed by Mr. Buddhi Narayan Shrestha. The other members of the committee were Dr. Ganesh Gurung, Rajendra Man Shrestha- Secretary, Gokul Dhital- Representative, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Dr. Nima Namgyal Sherpa- Convener, Mountaineering Rescue Committee, Krishna Tamrakar- Journalist and Jinesh Sindurakar- CEO as Member Secretary.

The award will be distributed in its Annual General Assembly in September.

Mr. Shambhu Tamang, IMM Advisor expressed his views on the activities of NMA. Chief Guest of the program Mr. Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya , Director General, Mr. Govinda Karkee put on their view on the present scenario of Tourism of Nepal and NMA. Finally the program concluded with the vote of thanks by NMA President, Mr Ang Tshering Sherpa.

Felicitation to TAAN Board – 9 Nov

NMA family welcomed and wished successful tenure for the newly elected board of Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) on 9 November 2015 at NMA secretariat.

Interaction Program at NMA – 16 Nov

NMA organized an interaction program regarding its present scenario on 16 November 2015 at NMA secretariat. NMA officials along with personalities from different travel agencies, officials from travel related organizations, officials of all labor associations and media members participated in the program. NMA's Participation on 40th Anniversary of Makalu Makalu successfully ascended by Former Yugoslav Expedition in 1975 under the leadership of Ales Kunaver -26 November

Nepal Honorary Consul office in Slovenia organized a solemn event on 26th November 2015 at the premises of Slovenian Alpine Museum to celebrate 40th Anniversary of Makalu successfully ascended by Former Yugoslav Expedition in 1975 under the leadership of Ales Kunaver. The main objective to organize this event was also to pay respect to visionary work of Ales Kunaver, who had initiated to build the mountain school in Manang with the financial support of the Government of then Yugoslavia and also his successful leading the Yugoslavian expedition to Makalu in 1975.

NMA President Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa also particated on this program and distributed apprecition letter to late Alans Kunaver for his initiation to build Manang Mountaineering School and Mr. Peter Markic for his support in extending cooperation for Manang Mountaineering School. Honorary Consulate General Mr. Aswin Kumar Shrestha was also felicitated for his appreciative and invaluable support for the promotion of Nepal's mountain tourism in Slovenia through his active participation in the Celebration of 40th Anniversary of Mt. Makalu a great success. On the same program, following summiteers of Former Yugoslav Expedition in 1975 were also felicitated by NMA President.

Press Conference at NMA Secretariat -30 November

NMA organized a press conference on 30th November 2015 at NMA Secretariat to inform about the participation in Asian Youth Champion (IFSC) to Malaysia for competition. NMA sent four junior Athletes (2 male & 2 Female) and a manger to participate in the competition. The Athletes have been training for last 45 days with training schedule and will participate in two discipline ( LEAD & BOULDERING ). According to their age they have been categorized into Group' A' and Group 'B'. The event is organized by Malaysia Mountaineering Association in coordination with International Federation of Sports Climbing (IFSC) and Asian Continental Council (ACC). NMA has already registered them in Athletes commission in IFSC. NMA acting President, Mr. Santa Bir Lama hand-over the flag of NMA and Nepal to the Athletes.

NMA is proud to send these sponsored Athletes to participate in this competition where they represent Nepal.
