NMA Day celebrated- 1 November 2013

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) celebrated its 40th Anniversary with the various programs organized at NMA secretariat on 1 Nov. Hon'ble Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ram Jumar Shrestha was chief guest for the program. After the welcome speech by NMA General Secretary Deebas Bikram Shah, the chief guest hoisted flag in the premises of NMA.

NMA Awards

As per the annual program of NMA, it distributed the following awards on the occasion of NMA day.

Dawa Norbu Mountaineering Tourism Journalism Award 2013

Convener of Prize Selection Committee Mr. Buddhi Narayan Shrestha highlighted on the selection criteria and procedure adopted for the selection of recipients of NMA awards. Executive Board of NMA decided about the recipient of the award on the basis of recommendation made by Prize Selection Committee. Then NMA President Zimba Zangbu Sherpa made an announcement of the recipients of the awards, which are as follows.

Mr. Lakpa Sherpa

Mr. Sherpa received award Kumar Khadga Bickram Adventurous Award - 2013 for his contribution in adventurous rescue activity in mountain and mountaineering.

Himalayan Rescue Association

Dr. Harka Gurung Mountaineering Award -2013 was awarded to Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) for its appreciative contribution to the promotion of Nepal's mountain tourism globally through the operation of health camps for medical services at Everest Base Camp, Pheriche, Manang and other mountain areas.

Bikash Prasad Lohani, National News Agency

Reporter and program coordinator from National News Agency received Dawa Norbu Mountaineering Tourism Journalism Award 2013 for his active involvement in disseminating information about mountain environment conservation, mountaineering training news that promoted Nepal's mountain tourism globally.

Felicitation of Ang Rita Sherpa

The famous mountaineer popularly known as snow leopard Ang Rita Sherpa was also felicitated in the same program for his contribution as Honorary Field Director at NMA. He was appointed as permanent staff of NMA in this post in 2050 B.S. for his record of Everest ascent of 10 times within ten years without oxygen. He was retired from NMA in Asadh of 2070 because of his age limit as per the administrative regulation of NMA.

Certificate distributed

The Chief Guest also distributed certificates to the trainees of Basic Mountaineering Course 2013 and NMA Trek Leader Course (Basic).

In the program, the chief guest expressed his satisfaction for the contribution of NMA made to the mountain tourism development of NMA. He also wished for more active involvement of NMA in mountain future in the future and assured for the necessary cooperation from the government side. Mr. President highlighted on the activities of NMA since its establishment. He also read out NMA's major activities related with human resource development, conservation of environment and local development, international relation, sport climbing activities etc. The program was concluded with the vote of thanks by Ist Vice President Mr. Nima Nuru Sherpa.

Ist Park Young Seok Climbing Competition organize- 2 November 2013

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) in coordination with Park Young Seok Foundation and The Nothface organized 1st Park Young Seok Climbing Competition on 1 & 2 Nov 2013 at The Himalaya Climbing & Training Centre, Balaju. The competition was held in Speed and lead Category.

The event was entirely funded by the Park Young Seok Foundation and North Face and organized in the birth anniversary of Park Young Seok on 2 Nov 1963.

NMA received 22 registrations to participate in the program.

Hon' ble Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ram Kumar Shrestha, Horary Member and Immediate Past President of NMA Ang Tshering Sherpa, President of UAAA Inn Young Lee and NMA President Zimba Zangbu Sherpa handed over the cash prize, certificates and gift vouchers for the winners of the competition. UAAA President also assured for the continuation of support to NMA from Park Young Seok Foundation to organize this competition annually. He also informed that from next year onwards, the winner of Park Young Seok Climbing Competition will have opportunity to get three month course in Korea.

Distribution of Park Young Seok Scholarship - 2 Nov

Park Young Seok Foundation has set up the welfare fund for the children of deceased mountaineers and it will be distributed through NMA. The fund was created in the memory of great Korean climber Park Young Seok, who died on 23 October in Annapurna. The foundation handed over the first installment of scholarship of US $ 500 on 2 Nov 2013 to five students recommended by NMA. President of Union of Asia Alpine Association (UAAA) and Chief advisor of Park Young Seok Foundation Inn Young Lee, General Secretary of UAAA Christine Pae and NMA President Zimba Zangbu Sherpa distributed the scholarship amount to the students and their parents.

Memorandum of Understanding signed with Park Young Seok Foundation- 6 Nov

NMA signed memorandum of understanding with Park Young Seok Foundation, Korea for the purpose of distribution of monthly scholarship to the students recommended by NMA. The scholarship is funded by Park Young Seok Foundation for 5 (five) students with the support of US$ 100 (one hundred dollar) per student per month. The scholarship will get continuation till all the five students clear twelve standard provided that they clear annual school exams with success.

IMM closed on CA election day- 18 Nov

NMA express its regret to inform all the visitors for International Mountain Museum (IMM) will be closed on the day of Constituent Election 19 Nov.

Mt. Everest Diamond Jubilee in Slovenia-26 Nov

Consulate General of Nepal in Slovenia, Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Alpine Association of Slovenia (PZS), Slovene Ethnographic Museum (SEM) and Museum of Gorenjska are jointly organizing Mt. Everest Diamond Jubilee Celebration on 6 Dec 2013 at SEM ,Slovenia. Everest summiteers from Slovenia will be awarded with Everest Diamond Jubilee Medal on the same occasion followed by the presentation of First Ascent of International Expedition of Slovenia to Mt. Everest by Andrej Stremfelj. The program will also have the photographic exhibition titled "Mighty Faces- Top achievements by Slovene Mountaineers in the Himalayas" by Ms. Marija Orgin, Director, Museum of Gorenjska and Ms. Jelena Justin, Advisor of the Museum.
