NMA Day celebrated- 1 Nov39th NMA was celebrated by organizing a special program in NMA secretariat in the presence of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Posta Bhadur Bogati as the chief guest. Secretary for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yajna Prasad Gautam was also present in the program as special guest. After the welcome speech delivered by General Secretary Deebas Bikram Shah, the chief guest hoisted the flag of NMA in the secretariat building. The program also observed the felicitation of Immediate Past President Ang Tshering Sherpa for being elected as honorary member of Union of International Alpine Association (UIAA). Hon'ble Minister felicitated him by handing over him the letter of felicitation on behalf of NMA. During his speech, Mr. Sherpa expressed that the entry of NMA member in the honorary member of UIAA is a matter of pride, not only for NMA, but for the whole nation. He also briefed about the role of UIAA and UAAA in formulating our government rules and regulation for the promotion of our mountain tourism. Special guest of the program, Tourism Secretary informed that the ministry is preparing to celebrate the diamond jubilee celebration of Mt. Everest to mark the completion of sixty years of its first ascent. The government in coordination with NMA will formulate some special program to celebrate this event, which will re-memorize Golden Jubilee Celebration of Mt. Everest 2003. Hon'ble Minister expressed his hope that Mr. Sherpa will play a creative rule in UIAA for the promotion of mountain tourism after being nominated honorary member of UIAA. He also expressed his readiness to cooperate with NMA in drafting policy and program focused on the development of Nepal's mountaineering globally. Mohan Krishna Sapkota-Joint Secretary, Chief of Tourism Industries Division, Surendra Prasad Sapkota, Under Secretary, NMA executive members, general members and staff were also present in the program. The program ended with vote of thanks by IInd Vice President Santa Bir Lama. He thanked the chief guest and other distinguished guests for the gracious presence in today's program. He also mentioned that the continuous effort of NMA and Mr. Sherpa in the field of mountaineering has led him success to be elected in the capacity of honorary member. Ist National IFSC Open Sports Climbing Competition- 4 NovNMA has decided to conduct Ist National IFSC Open Sports Climbing Competition on 24-25 Dec 2012. Unveiling ceremony of Park Young Seok's- 11 November 2012NMA organized a special program on 10 Nov to unveil the memorial monument constructed in the memory of Park Young Seok at International Mountaineers' Memorial Park, Kakani. Chief guest for the program, Secretary for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yajna Prasad Gautam unveiled the monument. In-jeoung Lee- President and Christine Pae- General Secretary of Union of Asian Alpine Association were also present in the program. NMA President expressed that he felt very proud to have memorial monument of such great climber at this place. He also expressed his hope that the establishment of the memorial monument of great mountaineers like Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgey Sherpa, Phu Dorje Sherpa and now Park Young Seok will spread the message to the world about the mission of NMA to construct the park. Park Young-Seok (November 2, 1963 - October 2011)is a South Korean mountaineer, who climbed the world's 14 Eight-thousanders, the Seven Summits, and visited both poles. He holds the world's second fastest time (behind Jerzy Kukuczka of Poland) for ascending the 14 Eight-thousanders, the Guinness World Record for climbing six of the 8,000-meter Himalayan peaks within one year, and another record for reaching the South Pole on foot in 44 days, self-sufficient and without any food re-supplies. Park went missing on October 23, 2011 while attempting a new route on Annapurna. Despite a dangerous and daring rescue operation to find the missing climbers, no sign of Park was found. The Korean Alpine Federation called off the rescue operation for Park and his team at 12:00 on October 28, 2011. Korean corner at IMM- 12 NovPresident of UAAA In-jeoung Lee and NMA President Zimba Zangbu Sherpa jointly inaugurated Korean Corner at International Mountain Museum on 12 Nov 2012. The program started with welcome speech by Nima Nuru Sherpa- Convener, International Mountain Museum Committee. The corner was established under the initiation of Korean Alpine Federation. The corner exhibits the mountain related artifacts of Korean climbers, information of Korean alpinism, culture etc. In the program, NMA President hoped the unveiling of Korean corner would also motivate other alpine clubs of other nations to take initiative in making corners at IMM. He also suggested In-Jeoung Lee being the President of Union of Asian Alpine Association to take further steps in opening UAAA corner at IMM displaying all their mountain culture, biodiversity, language etc. Advance Mountaineering Course 2012/2013NMA's annual training program will be conducted from 19 Dec 2012 - 30 Jan 2013 in Kathmandu and Langtang.
