Formation of Tourist Information Coordination Center- 2 May 2015

A meeting held under the chairmanship of Mr. Tulsi Prasad Gautam, Director General of Department of Tourism, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation in regard to facilitate tourists and their families by gathering information about tourists who are missing, dead and injured in the earthquake that took place on April 25, 2015 in the presence of stakeholders of tourism industry. The meeting also decided to form Tourist Information Coordination Center under the convernership of Mr. Tulsi Prasad Gautam, Director General of Department of Tourism with the representative from Nepal Tourism Board, Tourist Police, Department of Immigration, Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal, Nepal Mountaineering Association, Nepal Association of Tour and Trekking Agents and Hotel Association Nepal. The center collected the information about the present situation of foreign tourists who were in Nepal and coordinated with other agencies for rescue as per requirement.

Support from Korean Alpine Federation- 6  May

On 6th May 2015, in presence of Mr. Yong-Jin Choe, Korean Ambassador Mr. In-Jeong Lee President of Korean Alpine Federation donated 20,000 US Dollar on behalf of Korean Alpine federation for the victim of earthquake through Mountaineering Disaster Relief Educational Support Fund of Nepal mountaineering Association.

Relief Material distributed by NMA
Nepal Mountaineering Association distributed relief materials to the victims of earthquake of Dolakha, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Langtang, Kathmandu, Gorkha, Sindhupalchok Dhading and Solukhumbu districts. The relief material included 50 sacks of rice, 4 sacks of Dal, 50 packets of salt, 50 liters of oil, 35 Blankets, 15 mats and 15 tarpaulins for each district.Heart Quake, Mekong Organization for Mankind (Thailand) also donated big tent to NMA for the support of earthquake victims.

Candlelight vigil to pay tribute - 9 May
On 9th May 2015, to mark the completion of 59 years of first ascent of Mt. Manaslu Nepal Mountaineering Association organized candlelight vigil to pay tribute the mountaineers, Trekkers, and the people who lost their life due to the earthquake on 25th April, 2015. This program was organized at NMA Secretariat on 9th may 2015 at 6:00Pm in presence of NMA Executive Board Members, NMA Advisors and NMA Staff.

Tourism Recovery Committee formed
Nepal Tourism Board has formed a Tourism Recovery Committee in coordination with government and private sectors to recover the loss faced in tourism field due to the devastating earthquake on 25th April 2015 .

Congratulation to newly appointed Tourism Minister
NMA Advisors and board members extended warm welcome and congratulation to Mr. Kripasur Sherpa as Minister for Minister of Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation on 24th May 2015.

Press meet regarding logistics services in earthquake affected districts
On 27th May 2015, NMA, TAAN and United Nation World Food Program jointly organized a Press Meet to inform about the partnership of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) with United Nations World Food Program (WFP) for the provision of logistics services in earthquake affected districts of Nepal. During this press meet WFP informed that this is not only the program which distributes relief material to the victim rather this program will also helps to open the trails that have been made inaccessible due to the earthquake. According to the contract, NMA will provide human resource at Dollkha and Sindhupalchok districts and TAAN will provide huma resource at Gorkha, Rasuwa, Dhading and Nuwakot districts.

International Sagarmatha (Everest) Day celebrated- 29 May
A special program was organized on 29 May to celebrate International Everest Day at the premises of Nepal Tourism Board.  Newly appointed Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Kripasoor Sherpa was the chief guest of the program. Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Suresh Man Shrestha was also present in the program. One minute silence was also observed on the same program in the memory of the people died in recent earthquake.  Then, the procession led by the Tourism Minister was also organized to mark Everest Day. It was actively participated by high officials of the ministry, Everest summiteers, and representatives of different organizations.

Kumar Khadga Bikram Adventurous Award distributed
In the same program, Kumar Khadga Bikram Adventurous Award was also awarded to Captain Jason Ling for his brave job in rescuing the mountaineers in the avalanche occurred on Everest in April 2014. The award was instituted by Nepal Mountaineering Association in order to honor such brave people involved in rescue activities in mountain region.

NMA President Ang Tshering Sherpa highlighted about the establishment of award and explained about the reasons for Jason Ling was awarded. Tourism Secretary expressed about the hope that this program will certainly help in promoting Nepal globally after the earthquake and requested to media in circulating positive news about our culture, heritage, nature etc. The chief guest of the program expressed his readiness to cooperate with all the sectors of the tourism for the betterment of our nation. He mentioned about the importance of our joint effort to revive our tourism sector and requested for the extension of cooperation and coordination from all the related sectors.
