Baki chCondolence from Nepal Mountaineering Association

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) expresses its heartfelt sorrow and condolence to the bereaved families of the 49 passengers, who lost their lives in the US- Bangal plane crash at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on 12 March 2018. We also wish for the speed recovery of all the 22 people injured in the sad incident. On behalf of NMA, we would like to request Government of Nepal for the investigation for the reasons due to which the plane crashed. We also strongly request the concerned authority to follow the recommendations of previous commissions formed after the accident of plane in Nepal in order to prevent such types of sad incidents in Nepal in the days to come.

Body of Austrian climber removed- 20 March

The body of Austrian climber named Markus Schett ( 41 years old) is removed today from Lobuche high camp. Markus’s body was spotted above the Lobuche East High Camp on December 29 when the alpinist was last seen by his guide on December 19.

UIAA Management Committee Meeting, 23 & 24 March 2018

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) hosted the Management Committee of Union of International Alpine Association (UIAA) on 23rd and 24th March 2018 at Hotel Annapurna. There were total 30 delegates from 16 federations in the meeting. On 23rd March 2018, UIAA Management Committee Meeting started with Executive Board meeting chaired by UIAA President Mr. Frits Vrijlandt. After the board meeting, the official inauguration of the Management Committee concluded by lighting the lamp. In the opening ceremony, government officials, NMA board members, representatives from different tourism related organization were present. The UIAA Management Committee meeting successfully concluded on 24 March 2018 followed by the announcement and distribution of UIAA's Mountain Protection Award. Mount Everest Biogas Project ( MEBP), led by project co-founder Garry Porter won the Mountain Protection Award with the cash prize of Euro 5000. UIAA President Mr. Frits Vrijlandt, NMA President Santa Bir Lama and Immediate Past President of NMA and Honorary Member of UIAA Ang Tshering Sherpa jointly distributed the award MEBP in the same program.
