Annarpurna Day - 3 June

Veteran mountaineer Mr. Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal made first successful ascent on the tenth highest peak of the world Mt. Annapurna on 3 June 1950. The ascent of Mt. Annapurna hold special importance since it was the first ever successful ascent on the mountain of 8000m in the history of mankind. Therefore, NMA celebrates 3 June as Annapurna Day. NMA-Annapurna Chapter organized a special program at International Mountain Museum, Pokhara to mark the day. NMA IInd Vice President Mr. Santa Bir Lama joined the program as the chief guest of the program as the chief guest. Executive Board Member Mr. Rajendra Man Shrestha are joining the program on behalf of NMA.

Environment day observed- 5 June

The Environment Day was observed on 5 June with a tree plantation program at International Mountaineers' Memorial Park, Kakani. NMA Executive Board Members, committee members and NMA staff participated in the program. The theme for his year's environment day is " Green economy: Does it include you?"

Japanese climber felicitated- 10 June 13, 2012

Nepal Mountaineering Association organized a felicitation program on 10 June in honor of Japanese climber, Hirotaka Takeuchi- the first Japanese to climb all the peaks above 8000m. The chief guest for the program was Dr. Ganesh Raj Joshi, Secretary for Ministry for Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation and Japanese Ambassador His Excellency Kunio Takahashi attended the program as guest of honor. The program started with the welcome speech delivered by Deebas Bikram Shah, General Secretary.

His climbing expedition as a leader began from 22 May 1995 with the successful ascent of Mt. Makalu. His passion, dedication and enthusiasm for mountain and mountaineering led to continue his mission and finally he reached his goal with the summit of Mt Dhaulagiri on 26 May 2012. In the program, the chief guest handed over the certificate of successful ascent of Mt. Dhaulagiri to Takeucha. On behalf of NMA, President Mr. Zimba Zangbu Sherpa felicitated him with letter of appreciation. Japanese Ambassador also felicitated him for his major achievement. Then, representatives of other tourism related organizations also felicitated him with khada.

In the program, Mr. Takeucha San shared some experiences of his climbing expeditions with slide presentations. After this presentation, His Excellency congratulated Mr Takeucha for his historic achievement. He also informed most of Japanese Medias have emphasized this successful ascent and published special editions of their publications. He expressed his hope that the success of this expedition will definitely promote Nepal's mountain tourism in Japan. The chief guest for the program also congratulated Mr. Takeucha for being the first Japanese to achieve this record and wished him for the success of his future endeavor.

Finally, NMA President recalled the first successful ascent of Manaslu by the Japanese team on 9 May 1956. He also mentioned about the good relationship of NMA with Japanese alpine organizations like Japan Mountaineering Association, Japanese Alpine Club, Japan Workers' Alpine Federation, Nagano Mountaineering Association and Himalayan Adventure Trust of Japan.' He also expressed his gratefulness for having the opportunity to felicitate one of the greatest Japanese climber.

UAAA Council Meeting - 25 June

NMA IInd Vice President Mr. Santa Bir Lama and General Secretary Mr. Deebas Bikram Shah returned Kathmandu on 25 June after participating in the Council Meeting of Union of Asian Alpine Association (UAAA) held in Iran on 22 June 2012. NMA also presented report on the expedition activities of the UAAA member federations.
