IMM Day Celebrated- 5 Feb

The 10th Anniversary of International Mountain Museum with the theme of "Museums (memory + creativity) = social change" concluded with a special program organized on 5 Feb at IMM premise. Ex-Chief Secretary of Government of Nepal Madhav Prasad Ghimire was the chief guest of the program. Mr. Sushil Ghimire, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation also attended the program as the special guest. The official program started with the hoisting of the flags at the premise. After the welcome speech by NMA General Secretary Deebas Bikram Shah, the program observed one minute silence in the memory of Maurice Herzog and other famous mountaineers. The chief guest awarded letters of appreciation to Dr. In Jeoung Lee, President- UAAA, Ex-Conveners of IMM Committee- Mr. Jhalak Thapa and Mr. Dinesh Gurung, Ex- member Kamal Man Gurung for their outstanding contribution rendered for the development of IMM.

Mr. Ang Phurba Sherpa, member of IMM Committee shed light on the progress aspect of IMM. Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa, Honorary Member of UIAA, distinguished government officials- Chief District Officer and Zonal Administrative Officer were also present in the program. On the auspicious occasion, the following new artifacts were also placed for display at IMM.

• Opening of display of mountaineering gears of mountaineer late Park Yeoung Seok
• Golden medal given to late Gyalzen Norbu Sherpa by Japanese Alpine Club after the first ascent of Mt. Manaslu
• Display of mountaineering equipments and medals given by Dawa Sherpa, son of Ang Tharke Sherpa- first Annapurna summiteer and colleague of Maurice Herzog
• Display of Ice axe made up of garbage collected during Save the Everest Mission

NMA's assistance for Global Inclusive Adventure Organization - 25 February 2013

NMA President handed over the cheque of US $ 5000 and NMA flag to Global Inclusive Adventure Organization for their expedition on Mt. Kilimanjaro. The expedition is part of their movement to climb seven highest peaks of seven continents. The team had already climbed Mt. Everest (Asia), Mt. Elbrus (Europe), Mt. Kosciuszko( Australia) and now they are on the way to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Earlier, NMA supported Rs 5 lacs for their expedition on Mt. Kosciuszko.

Route setting class concluded- 27 Feb

Route setter, Judge Course/ seminar started from 17 Feb - 23 Feb at NMA concluded on 27 Feb. Simon Morgan- An IFSC certified and international route setter lectured on various dimensions of route setting including international practice during the training period.

Certificate distribution organized- 25 Feb

NMA distributed certificates to 20 participants of Advance Mountaineering Course 2013, 10 participants of High Mountain Rescue training and 20 participants of Route setter, Judge Course / seminar in a special program organized on 25 Feb at Nepal Tourism Board. The program started with the welcome speech delivered by NMA General Secretary Deebas Bikram Shah. Hon'ble Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Posta Bahadur Bogati was the chief guest for the program. The chief guest awarded certificates to the participants of Advance Mountaineering Course (19 Dec 2012- 30 Jan 2013), High Mountain Rescue Training (7-21 Jan 2013 and Route setter & judge course ( 16-23 Feb 2013). He also awarded letter of appreciation to Mr. Simone Margon, IFSC International Route Setter for his contribution in the development of climbing activities in Nepal. On the same program, Honorary Member of Union of International Alpine Association Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa handed over the Guinness World Record Certificate to Ms. Churim Sherpa for her achievement as the first woman in the ascent of Mt Everest two times in the same season on 12 and 19 May 2011. During the remark of Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa, he shed light on the various aspects of mountaineering and requested government to give special attention to the record holders of mountaineering. The chief guest applauded the contribution of NMA in the production of skilled human resources for the mountain tourism of Nepal. He also assured his readiness to cooperate with NMA for more tourism promotional programs. The program ended with the vote of thanks by NMA President Zimba Zangbu Sherpa.

23 more peaks for expedition- 26 Feb

On the occasion of the diamond jubilee of the ascent of Mt Everest on May 29, Government of Nepal is all set to open 23 new peaks for the expedition. After a series of lobbying by NMA with the support from tourism entrepreneurs, the government has finally decided to open 23 new peaks to promote mountain tourism and to create new destinations. NMA has also requested government to handover those peaks to NMA for its management as it has been doing with 33 peaks.
