9th IMM Anniversary- 5 Feb

The 9th Anniversary of International Mountain Museum was celebrated with a program organized in presence of State Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Dilip Maharjan as chief guest of the program in IMM premises. Mr. Zimba Zangbu Sherpa President chaired the program. The chief guest inaugurated the program by hoisting the flags at IMM premises. The program started with the welcome speech by General Secretary Deebas Bikram Shah. The Japanese life member of NMA, Mr. Ishihara Yuchiro presented his collection of stamps of Mt. Everest for the display at IMM published by different countries. Museum Chief Mr. Bal Prasad Rai presented the progress report of IMM. Ist Vice President and Convener, IMM- Mr. Nima Nuru Sherpa revealed some plans and program designed for the development of IMM. The advisors of IMM- Dr. Lhakpa Norbu Sherpa and Mr. Jal Krishna Shrestha briefed about the management, development and policy recommendations for IMM. Hon'ble State Minister appreciated as the construction of IMM is one of the major tourism products of Nepal. He appreciated the role of NMA in constructing such type of mega project and wished for its active involvement in the promotion of mountain tourism. Finally, NMA President thanked the chief guest and other guest for the gracious presence in the program.

9th IMM Day

50th Anniversary of KAF - 9 Feb

Korean Alpine Federation is celebrating its 50th Anniversary on 23 April 2012 at Seoul Sejong Hall.

PETZL Training completed - 10 Feb

NMA in coordination with Petzl Foundation conducted NMA Trek Leader Further Training (Basic & Advance) & NMA Trek Leader Tutor Training from 22 Jan to 10 Feb 2012 at Kathmandu and International Mountaineers Memorial Park, Kakani. 27 trainees participated in this year's training program. NMA and Petzl Foundation entered into the agreement in on 24 August 2007 to conduct this training program. Instructors from Petzl Foundation Patrick Magnier and Steve Long with Nepalese instructors Lakpa Sherpa and Jamchang Bhote conducted training at Kakani. After training at Kakani, the trainees are given theoretical lecture on flora, fauna, mountain culture, meteorology, mountain geography and first aid at NMA Secretariat. This training is regarded as the first phase of mountaineering trainings conducted by NMA and it is kept as one of the criteria to select trainees for Basic Mountaineering Course. State Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Dilip Maharjan distributed certificates to all the participants of the training in a special program organized on 10 Feb.

Trainees of AMC returned - 16 Feb 2012

The trainees and instructors of Advance Mountaineering Course 2012 returned from Langtang today after completing fifteen days of ice climbing, trekking, first aid and other essential mountaineering trainings in Langtang. The training started from 10 Jan in Kathmandu and the trainees left Kathmandu on 28 Jan after completing theoretical classes on mountain geography, mountain rescue, equipments, mountaineering history. 24 trainees are participating this year's training program with two foreign nationals.

13th Nepal Open Paragliding 2012- 23 Feb

NMA sponsored the prize money of Rs. 30,000 for the 13th Nepal Open Paragliding 2012 organized by Nepal Air Sports Association in Pokhara from 19 - 23 Feb 2012.

PA of IFSC completed- 25 Feb

The Plenary Assembly of International Federation of Sport Climbing took place on 25 Feb at Amsterdam of Netherlands. NMA General Secretary Mr. Deebas Bikram Shah represented NMA in the meeting.

Apa Sherpa felicitated with the Guinness World Record- 28 Feb

Apa Sherpa, Ex- Advisor of NMA, who has conquered Mount Everest a record 21 times was felicitated with the Guinness World Record. On the 44th day of the Great Himalayan Trail-Climate Smart Celebrity Trek lead by Apa, Guinness World Record Editor-in-chief Mr. Craig Glenday and his team handed over a certificate at a function at Shree Saraswati Higher Secondary School in Gyalthum, Sindhupalchowk. Apa is accompanied by Dawa Stephen Sherpa (two time Mt.Everest Summiteer), Saurabh Dhakal and Sameer Jung Thapa, as part of a campaign to promote tourism and highlight the impact of climate change.

NMA endorsed liaison officers- 29 Feb

NMA endorsed the following five Everest summiteers having the qualification set by Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation to be deputed as liaison officers this season in different mountains. They are recommended by the committee headed by Everest Summiteers' Association with Nepal Mountaineering Instructors' Association and Nepal National Mountain Guide Association as members.
