Advance Mountaineering Course 2013 / 2014- 3 Dec

NMA's regular training program Advance Training Course started in Kathmandu from 14 Dec 2013. Twenty-one trainees are participating in the training program and they will leave for Langtang in order to complete further training on7 Jan 2014.

Visit Chinese delegation- 7 Dec

The 7th Meeting of Joint Tourism Coordination Committee between Nepal and Tibet Autonomous Region of Chine took place in Kathmandu from 6 - 10 Dec 2013. NMA Ist Vice President Nima Nuru Sherpa participated in the meeting on behalf of NMA.

Mt. Everest Diamond Jubilee in Slovenia

Consulate General of Nepal in Slovenia, Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Alpine Association of Slovenia (PZS), Slovene Ethnographic Museum (SEM) and Museum of Gorenjska jointly organized Mt. Everest Diamond Jubilee on 6 Dec 2013. The program was organized at the premises of SEM. The program started with the national anthems of Nepal and Slovenia followed by the welcome speech from by Ms. Bojana Rogelj Škafar, Director, Slovene Ethnographic Museum (SEM). The inauguration speech was given by Chief Guest, Hon'ble Dr. Jernej Pikalo, Minister for Education, Science and Sport of the Government of Slovenia. On the occasion, representative of Government of Nepal Mr. Maddu Sudan Burlakoti- Joint Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation awarded the following five Slovenian Mountaineers with Mt. Everest Diamond Jubilee Medals.

The following three were also awarded with Mt. Everest Golden Jubilee Medals

On the same program, NMA Immediate Past President Ang Tshering Sherp and General Secretary Deebas Bikram Shah handed over the letter of appreciation to the following persons for their special contribution in the promotion of Nepal's mountain tourism in Slovenia through the active participation in Mt. Everest Diamond Jubilee Celebration.

Bojan Rotovnik, President, Alpine Association of Slovenia (PZS).
Dr. Bojana Rogelj Skafar, Director, Slovene Ethnographic Museum.
Ms. Marija Ogrin, Director, Museum of Gorenjska.

Mr. Andrej Štremfelj, First Summiteer of the Mt. Everest of Slovenia in 1979 did power Point Presentation of the First Ascent of International Expedition of Slovenia to Mt. Everest. Ms. Marija Ogrin, Director, Museum of Gorenjska & Ms Jelena Justin, Advisor of the SEM introduced the photographic exhibition called "Mighty Faces – Top achievements by Slovene Mountaineers in the Himalayas".

In the remarks of Mr. Maddu Sudan Burlakoti- Joint Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, he mentioned his gratefulness for inviting to attend the majestic program and hoped that the program would help in the promotion of Nepal's mountain tourism more in Slovenia. He also informed about some changes related with royalty, garbage deposit management, infrastructure development, human waste management, rescue cell establishment that will take place soon in Nepalese rules and regulation on mountaineering.

Honorable Consulate General of Nepal Mr. Aswin Kumar Shrestha expressed his happiness to celebrate Diamond Jubilee of the First Ascent of Mt. Everest by Sir Edmund Percival Hillary and Nepalese Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and also the First Ascent of Yugoslav Expedition of Mt. Everest in 1979 under the leadership of Mr. Tone Škarja from the Republic of Slovenia. He added that his long wish to pay respect and admire to those topmost Mountaineers for their extremely hard work and persistence to materialize their individual successes in summiting the peaks of Himalayas. He also recalled and admired the cooperation of NMA and Alpine Association of Slovenia in the field of mountaineering in producing skilled human resources for the safe mountain tourism.

Honorable member of UIAA and IPP of NMA Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa also expressed his thankfulness to all in organizing such successful program in Slovenia. He also mentioned about the procedure that has been initiated in UIAA in recognizing additional more 8000 m peaks.

Charge De affairs of Nepalese Embassy in Germany Prakash Mani Dhakal expressed his happiness to be present in the program and applauded the huge presence of crowd in the program. He also hoped that the program would be successful in promoting Nepal's mountain tourism in Slovenia and requested to visit Nepal to experience its unique culture, natural biodiversity, mountains etc.

Diplomatic representatives of different countries in Slovenia, high ranking government officials of Slovenian government, mountaineers, and media persons were also present on the occasion. The program also witnessed some cultural songs of both the countries and ended with the beautiful song by Ms. Branka Božic.

Meeting at Ministry of Foreign Affairs

NMA representatives also held discussion with Mitja Strukelj, Ambassador, Director- General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Directorate for International Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance. Maddu Sudhan Burlakoti brief about the objective of the visit of Slovenia and expressed his satisfaction on the successful completion of Mt. Everest Diamond Jubilee Celebration. He also expressed his gratitude for the cooperation of Slovenian for the development of Nepal's mountain tourism. The meeting briefly discussed about the possibility of exploring on the new areas for the mutual cooperation that can be exchanged.

Participation of Solemn Awards of Highest Appreciations PZS 2013

Alpine Association of Slovenia (PZS) organized the Solemn Awards of the highest awards PZS 2013 on 7 Dec 2013 at Town Municipality Koper and Coastal Alpine Association, Koper. NMA representatives led by Madhu Suddan Burlakoti, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation in Slovenia for Mt. Everest Diamond Jubilee Celebration also participated in the program. He awarded letter of appreciation Tone Skarja and Bojan Pollak for their tireless endeavor for the production of skilled human resources in Nepal for the promotion of safe mountain tourism in Nepal. President of PZS Bojan Rotovnik felicitated different veteran Slovenian mountaineers in the program for their appreciative contribution in Slovenian alpinism sector.

Visit of Slovenian Alpine Museum- 8 Dec

During the participation of Mt. Everest Diamond Jubilee Celebration, NMA representatives also visited Slovenia Alpine Museum on 8 Dec. They were welcomed by Miro Erzen, Head of the Museum and Vice President of Alpine Association of Slovenia at the museum premises. Mr. Erzen explained in details to NMA representatives about the objectives, activities, programs and exhibited artifacts of the museum. The artifacts related with Manang Mountaineering School, Ist Slovenian Everest Expedition, traditional mountaineering equipments etc are nicely displayed at the museum. NMA representatives inquired with Miro Erzen about the possibility of the exchange of cooperation and experience between two associations for the development of NMA's International Mountain Museum, Pokhara.

Meeting at Ministry of Economic Development and Technology- 9 Dec

At the meeting with Marjan Hribar, Director General of Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, Directorate for Tourism and Internationalization on 10 Dec, it was discussed about the mutual cooperation that had been exchanged between two associations since thirty four years. Mr. Hribar also requested NMA representatives to propose new area for cooperation that both the countries can work together. In response, Mr. Burlakoti said that since both the countries have been working together in mountain tourism sector, culture can be the new sector in which both the countries can move ahead jointly. He also proposed to study in the sector deeply so that memorandum of understanding can be signed between two countries.

Meeting with Simono Morgan

NMA General Secretary Deebas Bikram Shah and Chief Administrative Officer Jinesh Sindurakar met with IFSC certified route setter Simono Morgan on 9 Dec in Slovenia. In the meeting, Mr. Shah shade light on the necessity of well qualified route setters for the development of climbing activities in Nepal and requested Mr. Morgan to visit Nepal and share his experience to Nepali route setters. In response, Mr. Morgan assured his cooperation and expressed his readiness to help Nepal in producing qualified route setters as he did in the visit of Nepal in 2012.

NTV journalist Raju Silwal awarded- 19 Dec

Nepal Television Journalist Raju Silwal bagged Outstanding Effort Award 2013 for the making of documentary "My Best Korean Friend / Favorite Food is ....." The documentary has the story of late famous Korean climber Park Young Seok, who successfully climbed all the mountains above 8000m.

2nd IFSC National Open Lead Climbing Competition- 24 Dec

NMA organized 2nd IFSC National Open Lead Climbing Competition on 24th and 25th December 2013 at Himalaya Climbing & Training Centre, Balaju. The program was organized under the rules and regulations of International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC). A Lead Climbing Competition is where competitors climb along a route designed and set by the route setter, and attempt to reach the top, which in climbing terms, in the end of the route.

Thirty-nine participants (29 male and 10 female) registered their names to participate in the program. Heritage Plaza sponsored the cash prize worth Rs 2,04,000 and Black Diamond gave gift hampers to the winners.

The chief guest for the program, Honorable Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ram Kumar Shrestha, gave away cash prize and letter of appreciation to the winners of the competition. NMA President Zimba Zangbu Sherpa, Immediate Past President and Honorary member of UIAA Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa, Under Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ram Prasad Sapkota were also present in the program.
