Advance Mountaineering Training 2012- 2 Dec

NMA's regular training program Advance Mountaineering Training 2012 will start from 10 Jan - 18 Feb 2012 in Kathmandu and Langtang. 24 trainees are expected to participate in the training of duration of 38 days.

U.S. cancels travelling warning for Nepal- 8 Dec

The U.S. Department of State has cancelled the Travel Warning that was most recently issued on January 12, 2011. The U.S. Embassy is pleased that the overall situation in Nepal has improved to such a degree that this decision could be made. By issuing a press statement on Wednesday, Public Affairs Section Embassy of The United States, Maharajgunj, Kathmandu has stated that the Travel Warning issued about a year ago has been cancelled in recognition of the improved conditions in Nepal.

Reception program for UAAA President & General Secretary- 12 Dec

NMA organized reception program in honor of UAAA President Injeoung Lee and Christine Pae on 12 Dec 2011. The Executive Board Members of NMA were present in the program.

NMA sponsored Ist prize for KIMFF - 12 Dec

Nepal Mountaineering Association sponsored the first prize of US $ 1500 for the 9th Kathmandu International Mountain FilmFestival (KIMFF) that concluded on 12 December 2011. Summer Pasture (USA) directed by Lynn True and Nelson Walker secured the first position in the festival. Family Instinct (Latvia) by Andris Gauja and Au Dela Des Cihes (Beyond the Summits) (France) by Remy Tezier won second and third place respectively. Journey to Yarsa (Nepal) by Dipendra Bhandari won the Audience Award. Himal Association's annual program Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) started from 8-12 December 2011. Acting President Nima Nuru Sherpa handed over the first prize to the producers of Summer Pasture. In his short speech, he appreciated the role of Himal Association in organizing such type of international film festival focused on mountain tourism, environment and culture. Fifty two films - documentaries, fiction, animation, shorts -from 22 countries were screened at Rashtriya Sabha Griha (City Hall) and the Nepal Tourism Board Auditorium. The films covered a wide array of subjects – including culture, climbing, migration, human rights, biodiversity, environment, globalization, gender, and lifestyles. The main focus of the festival this year is on adventure and exploration.

Ex-executive Board Member Da Gombu Sherpa passed away- 19 Dec

The Ex-executive Board Member Mr. Da Gombu Sherpa passed away on 19 Dec at Om Hospital. He has 

been suffering fromcancer since two years. He had greatly contributed for the production and development of skilled human resources in the field of mountaineering as the Convener of Training and Expedition Committee.

Solemn event in Slovenia - 16 Dec

NMA President participated in the solemn event in Ljubljana was organized by Consulate of Nepal in Slovenia in cooperation with the Alpine Association of Slovenia, Nepal Mountaineering Association and the Slovene Ethnographic Museum on 16 Dec 2011.

The program was organized on the occasion of Nepal Tourism Year 2011. In the program, recognition of the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation of the Government of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal was awarded to the Slovenian Mountaineers at the premises of Slovene Ethnographic Museum, who have conquered Mt. Everest. Token of appreciations were presented to the following Slovenian mountaineers for their appreciative contribution in the development and promotion of mountain tourism of Nepal globally.

NMA President also offered khada and flower to the Slovenian climber Nejc Zaplotnik who was killed in an  avalanche of Manasluin 2004. During his speech, he expressed his gratitude to Alpine Association of Slovenia for its kind cooperation in organizing the mountaineering training to mountaineers for safe climbing, for rescuing in the mountains at Manang Mountaineering School. The school was built with the financial support of then Yugoslavia and then Republic of Slovenia in the initiative of Mr. Aleš Kunaver in 1979.

Mr. Bojan Rotovnik, President of the Alpine Association of Slovenia expressed his satisfaction in developing good cooperation with NMA, especially in organizing jointly, the training for Mountain Guides in Manang. He also expressed his sincere thanks to the Nepal Mountaineering Association for providing a corner to the Alpine Association of Slovenia to introduce its success in Himalaya at the International Mountain Museum, Pokhara, Nepal. At the end of the program, the cultural programme was also organized. More than 150 participants from foreign diplomats located in Slovenia, Consuls and Honorary Consuls, VIP delegates of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Slovenia and friends of Nepal from Slovenia participated in the program. We should be very grateful with Honorary Consul of Nepal in Slovenia Mr. Aswin K. Shrestha for organizing such majestic event on the occasion of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.

Entry exam and Ist Component of Aspirant Guide Course completed- 21 Dec

The Entry exam and Ist Component of Aspirant Guide Course that started from 4 December completed on 21 Dec 2011. The training was jointly organized by Nepal Mountaineering Association and Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) under the supervision of Herbert Mayerhofer from International Federation of Mountain Guide Association (IMFGA) in Rolwaling region. Mr. Pemba Gyalze Sherpa was the chief instructor where as Mr. Lam Babu Sherpa and Dorje Lama Sherpa is instructors for the training. Although numerous applications received for the training, only 7 participants were selected as per the guidelines of IMFGA.
