NMA starts monitoring- 15 April
NMA has decided to monitor its peaks located in different regions of the country. During the monitoring, NMA representatives will hold interaction with local people, associations on the issues related with climbing permits, illegal climbing, garbage management, development of permit checking system etc. The following executive board members were deputed for this task.

Royalty fixed for Nepalese mountaineers- 16 April
As per the notice published on 12 Jan 2014 on Gazette of Government of Nepal, Nepalese national will have to pay royalty on the basis of height of the mountain. The royalty rate is fixed on season wise basis and each member has to pay royalty amount as mentioned below.

Avalanche in Mt Everest- 18 April
An avalanche hit Khubuche area, near Camp 1 at the height of 5800m, of Mt Everest on 18 April morning at 6:30 am , killing at least 14 mountaineers, most of them Sherpas. The avalanche came sweeping from the Khubuche Icefall and hammered over at tents of Sherpas, who were heading to Camp I to ferry logistics and fix ropes for the climbers of different expedition teams.
The site is at an elevation of 5,800 metre, in between the base camp and Camp I. NMA's Executive Board Member Dorje Khatri also died in the same incident.

Joint Meeting
A joint meeting of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA), Expedition Operators Association (EOA) and Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) was conducted at NMA Secretariat on 18 April. The joint meeting released a press statement with gratefulness to the government for taking initiative in rescuing the climbers on Everest. NMA and TAAN each decided to financially assist to the bereaved families with Rs 50,000 and injured climbers with Rs 35,000. Likewise, EOA will contribute Rs 25,000 to the bereaved and Rs 15,000 to the injured. All the members of NNMGA in EBC are involved in rescue activities.
Funeral Procession- 21 April
Funeral Procession of summiteers was organized on 21 April 2014, which started from Sherpa Sewa Kendra, Boudha. The route of the procession was as follows: Sherpa Sewa Kendra- Chuchhepati- Chabahil- Mitrapark- Siphal- Naxal Bhagwabati- Durbarmarg- Kantipath- Employees Provident Fund, Thamel- Lainchaur Speaker of Constituent Assembly Subash Nembang, Deputy Prime Minister Prakas . . Sherpa Sewa Kendra- Chuchhepati- Chabahil- Mitrapark- Siphal- Naxal Bhagwabati- Durbarmarg- Kantipath- Employees Provident Fund, Thamel- Lainchaur. After the condolence service at Lainchaur, the dead bodies will be forwarded for cremation in Teku and Swayemabhu
 
Press statement released by Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation- 22 April
Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) released press statement on 22 April 2014 in order to make cordial environment for the mountaineering expeditions. In the press statement, MoCTCA has also announced some relief package for the mountaineers died and missing in the avalanche that happened on 18 April on Everest.
Some of the major highlights of the statements are as follows.
- Government of Nepal has already decided to contribute 30% of the royalty collected from the mountain for Village Development Committee (VDC). As per the new decision, 5% of the amount that goes to VDC will be allocated for Mountain Relief Fund and all the concerned organizations will be involved in making terms and condition within two months to mobilize this amount in the following titles.
• Rehabilitation of the injured summiteers
• Management of the education of the dead and missing summiteers
• Rehabilitation, capacity development and daily livelihood of the families of dead and missing summiteers.
• Rescue and medical expenses
- The insurance amount of one million will be made up to 1.5 million of the sirdar, mountain and high altitude worker.
- Medical insurance of the amount Three Hundred Thousand will be made up to Rupees Four Hundred Thousand.
- In the memory of dead and missing mountaineers, an initiation to construct memorial park in any suitable place will be allocated for the construction of memorial park. Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation will allocate certain budget annually for this project.
- The opened mountains which are not climbed due to lack of promotion will be handed over to Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) for the management. Fixed amount of the peak royalty will be deposited in the Mountaineers Relief Fund.
- Regarding died and missing mountaineers in avalanche on 18 April, additional financial assistance of the amount (which is insufficient as per the proposed insured amount mentioned in S. no 2) will be provided to their family.
- Initiation will be taken to manage addition financial assistance for the injured mountaineers.
- Additional fund (not covered by insurance) will be provided to the helicopters used in rescue activities.
- Continuation will be given in the restriction of flying helicopter above base camp except rescue activities and permitted one.
- Continuation will be given not allowing leaving garbage above base camp.
- Nepal Mountaineering Association will manage education of the children of the dead and missing mountaineers.
Additional assistance
NMA decided to provide additional financial assistance of Rs One Hundred Thousand for each family of the deceased families to invest in productive and income generating fields.
Everest base camp visit-24 April 2014

Condolence Service organized- 30 April
NMA organized condolence service on 30 April in the memory of died mountaineers in the avalanche that happened on 18 April 2014. Hon'ble Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Bhim Prasad Acharya was present in the program. In the program, The Chief Guest of the program Hon'ble Minister mentioned that the fund provided by the government is just an initiative and expressed his readiness to cooperate with all the sectors for the betterment of families of deceased mountaineers. NMA President Ang Tshering Sherpa informed that NMA already handed over Rs 50,000 (Fifty thousand) for the families of died and missing mountaineers and Rs 35000 (Thirty-five thousand) for the injured mountaineers as an immediate relief fund. Additionally, NMA decided to give Rs 1 lac for each family of the deceased families to invest in productive and income generating fields.
