Apa to climb Everest again- 1 AprilMinister for Tourism & Civil Aviation Sarat Singha Bhandari handed over the flag of Nepal Tourism Year 2011 to Mr. Apa Sherpa, record holder for ascending 19th times, to hoist+1 at the summit of Everest. He is now attempting for 20th ascents as the team leader of Eco Everest Expedition 2010. Similarly, Hon'ble Minister also handed over the appreciation letter to Mr. Dawa Steven Sherpa awarded by International Olympic Committee for his contribution in implementation of outstanding environmental practices through sports. Mt. Dhaulagiri Cleaning Campaign- 2 AprilOn the occasion of Mt. Dhaulagiri Golden Jubilee Celebration, Mt. Dhaulagiri Cleaning Campaign 2010 was carried out under the initiation of Nepal Women Mountaineering Association (NWMA). NMA contributed four lac rupees for the cleaning campaign. Nepal Tourism Year 2011- 8 AprilNMA was involves in the regional starting ceremony of Nepal Tourism Year 2011 to be held on 11 April 2010 in Pokhara. NMA has contributed Rs. 89000 for the program. Permission for Habitat for Humanity International- 8 AprilNMA permitted Habitat for Humanity International for the usage of premises of International Mountain Museum (IMM), Pokhara for its program "THE EVEREST BUILD 2010" to be held from 1-8 October 2010 only. NMA also waived 50% on the entrance ticket to all foreign participants only to IMM for 3 Oct 2010 only. NMA also permitted Habitat for Humanity International for the construction of the perfabricated bamboo model House (3ft X 3 ft) outside IMM building on the open ground area, on condition that it would be removed and area cleared after the completion of program. Ganesh Gurung NMA's members nominated as members of National Planning Commission - 18 AprilGovernment of Nepal nominated the two general members of NMA- Dr. Ganesh Gurung and Prof. Dr. Pushkar Bajracharya as member of National Planning Commission. And we express our congratulation & success for their tenure. Expedition Operators' Association gets membership- 18 AprilExpedition Operators; Association was given institutional membership of NMA. And we congratulation them & we look forward working with them. Press Conference organized- 19 AprilA press conference on Seven Summits World Record Expedition 2010 within 50 days by Ang Cherri Sherpa was organized at NMA Secretariat on 19 April. Mr. Sherpa has aimed to climb seven highest summits of seven continents within 50 days and already climbed six highest summits. He left Kathmandu for Lukla on 24 April to climb the final peak- Mt. Everest. Everest Summiteers' Association also gave him some mountaineering equipments for the expedition on the same program.
NMA's participation in Int'l conferenceNMA's President Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa is scheduled to represent NMA in 58th TrentoFilmFestival scheduled to be held in Italy from 29 April - 9 May 2010. He will be doing presentation on " Mountains and Climate changes: what will come after Copenhagen?" on 4 May and " Himalaya" on 6 May 2010 . NMA supports Extreme Everest Expedition 2010- 27 AprilNMA contributed one million rupees for Friends of Save the Himalayas to conduct Extreme Everest Expedition 2010 as part of its environment conservation program. The expedition team consisting of 31 highly skilled members is expected to bring down about 2000 kgs of garbage collected above 8000m of Mt. Everest i.e. Death Zone.
UAAA Joint Paldor Peak Expedition Spring - 2010The twenty-two members of UAAA Joint Paldor Peak Expedition Spring 2010 successfully ascended Paldor peak on 24 April 2010. The team left for Langtang on 17 April 2010. The team included 13 Japanese, 4 Koreans, 4 Mongolians and 1 Nepali. NMA has waived the royalty fee for the peak. Meanwhile, certificates of successful ascent were awarded to all the participants in a reception progam organized in honor of team members. NMA extends ladder installation periodNMA decided not to remove ladder installed at the crevasse of Island Peak before 31 May 2010. The decision was taken on the basis of requests received from local people, trekking agencies and climbers. Contribution for High Mountain Rescue TrainingNMA contributed four lac rupees to Nepal Mountaineering Instructors' Association (NMIA) for HMRT conducted from 10-29 March 2010 in Langtang. The total number of participants in the training was 12. The training, aimed to enhance the rescue technique skill of mountaineers, was also funded by Foundation yoes Pavllet Villard, Embassy of French Republic and Ifremont of France. Interaction with Constituent membersAn interaction program was held on 30 April with constituent members representing from Dhaulagiri zone regarding Mt. Dhaulagiri Golden Jubilee Celebration. In the interaction program, NMA President Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa presented the tentative program proposed for the program and requested the members for suggestions to make the program more inclusive and jubilant. Hon'ble members appreciated the role of NMA in inviting them in the interaction program. Presenting their views, they stressed on the need of organizing such important program in Beni and Baglung in order to increase the awareness of local people on mountain tourism. NMA President asked constituent members to be present at the program for 14 May 2010 and he committed for the presence of national and international Dhaulagiri summiteers in the program to be organized in their area (Pokhara). Finally, NMA President thanked all the constituent members for their presence and suggestions in the meeting and assured NMA's initiative to follow their suggestions. Participants in Dhaulagiri celebrationTwenty-two national and international Dhaulagiri summiteers have registered in order to participate in Mt. Dhaulagiri Golden Jubilee Celebration. Some famous summiteers like the first Dhaulagiri summiteer Kurt Dimberger, and sixth times Dhaulagiri summiteer Mr. Ang Rita Sherpa have sent us their confirmation to participate in the program. |
