Khadananda Dhakal's travelogue became bestseller- 6 April

Khadananda Dhakal's two travelogue- Seti Pani Kali Pani and Himal Pari Pugepachi became best seller in recently held book exhibition by Sajha Publication. Himal Pari Pugepachi is Nepali version of his book titled Beyond the Himalayas published in 2002. Mr. Dhakal is serving Government of Nepal as Under Secretary and he was Ex-officio member of NMA during his tenure at Mountaineering Division, Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.

Apa Sherpa to break his own record-7 April

Legendary Everest summiteer Apa Sherpa (49) and ex-advisor of NMA has aimed to break his own record by climbing Mt. Everest for 19 times. Mr. Sherpa planned to create worldwide awareness about global warming and the effects of climate change in the Himalayas through his Eco Everest Expedition 2009. He first climbed Mt Everest in 1990 with Peter Hillary, son of Sir Edmund Hillary who reached the summit of Mt Everest for the first time with Tenzing Norgay Sherpa.

English Language Communication Skill- 12 April 2009

NMA Taskforce meeting held on 12 April decided to conduct English Language Communication Skill training for six staff at NMA starting from 20 April.

Gratis permit for GIA- 19 April

NMA issued gratis permit for ten lady summiteers associated with Global Inclusive Adventure Organization (GIA) to ascend Mera and Island peaks to practice for their campaign titled Himalayan Women to Seven Summits. They are the members of First Inclusive Women Summiteers Expedition 2008 who had successfully ascended.

Mt. Everest in 2008. NMA also provided them some equipment for the climbing.

News edition of Nepal Parbat- 19 April

Nepal Parbat, the mountain journal of NMA, is going to be published on the occasion of Mt. Everest Day on 29 May 2009. It will be published in English and Nepali language. NMA appointed Mr. Asheesh Sharma and Mr. Pratap Onta as editor for English and Nepali language.

Crevasse at Island peak- 19 April

NMA taskforce deputed Nepal Mountaineering Instructors' Association (NMIA) to install stairs at the crevasse observed at the NMA's most climbed peak i.e. Island.

Mountaineering gear:

Quickdraw is used by climbers to attach ropes to bolt anchors or protection. They allow the rope to run through with minimal friction. A quickdraw consists of two non-locking carabiners connected by a short, pre-sewn loop of webbing.
